'Capacity building' is all about helping individuals and businesses to help and equip themselves with the necessary skills, confidence and ability to shape and influence their own development in successfully creating employment in enterprise.
This specific 'capacity building' programme is created to provide business health checks and counselling, targeted at Black and ethnic minority run businesses in the URBAN area. Particular provision is aimed at the construction and building businesses, where partnerships and business networking will be encouraged right across the building sector.
Ultimately, the objective is to produce investment, growth and greater competitiveness in the construction and building sector by enhancing joint initiatives in breaking into the wider market. Support in management, marketing and business development skills, including tendering, costing and job estimation to improve presentation and chances of obtaining contracts.
In practice, this will mean that business advisers and consultants will provide an on-site health check to support the training phase which will include other important topics such as:
- effective business management
- developing local capacity
- documentation and legal issues
- quality issues
- negotiation and sourcing contracts
CEED's project is summed up by its mission statement of:
