Background on UK URBAN Network

The UK URBAN Network was founded in June 1997 and formally launched in June 1998. Its membership includes the 18 local URBAN Partnership Groups (UPG) part-funded by the European Commission to deliver URBAN Action Plans. It exists to share best practice and information, provide mutual support, and to debate and lobby on issues regarding the URBAN Initiative and other urban policy matters. There is a strong commitment to representation and leadership within the Network of community representatives, alongside other partners, as community leadership and partnership are central components of the URBAN Programme.

Network business is carried out through quarterly conferences. Each conference is hosted by one of the member UPGs in turn.
