Integrated Neighbourhood Home Maintenance Training Scheme - Bristol Care & Repair (ESF)

Targeted in the St. Agnes part of the URBAN area, this project has enhanced the employment prospects of local residents whilst increasing resident involvement in civic life and management.

It has also provided work experience and personal development through the creation of a volunteering programme involving local residents in the management and development of local amenities and wider community facilities. This will translate into the provision of an Educational and Training Programme for local unemployed people and at the same time, carrying out home improvements for the elderly.

Participants have received training, support and practical experience in:

  • confidence building
  • negotiation skill
  • team-working
  • meetings management
  • consultation skills
  • survey skills
  • interpersonal skills.

As well as gaining valuable work experience in managing local facilities, parks and green spaces, participants will also provide leisure and welfare help for local elderly residents. In addition, participants in the scheme will have gained skills and experience through the Home Maintenance Scheme, learning about:

  • home maintenance
  • energy efficiency
  • health and safety measures, and
  • house security to vulnerable groups living in poor housing.

The project has also delivered a painting and decorating service to older and disabled homeowners and local community-based facilities.  Other successes have included provision of training programmes, guidance and advice to people.
