The New Trinity Community Centre has, in previous forms, been a focal point and inspiration in the community for many years. It has gone through a number of positive changes as well as experienced its share of challenges and disappointments. Now, Scout Enterprises (Western) Ltd and New Trinity have created an exciting new partnership to redevelop the centre primarily through the volunteer option of New Deal.
By attracting up 58 unemployed local people, giving training and supervision by experienced trades-people, this project has concentrated on renovating New Trinity and further develop the Community Arts Strategy of the Centre.
Additional results of this community-led scheme have been NVQs, teams helping other local voluntary organisations with their own renovation plans and improving facilities at New Trinity. This latter aim is linked to the onward development and use of the centre as a training and exhibition space for local and city-wide projects. New Trinity has now re-established itself as the centre for community activity in the area. At the end of the project New Deal had created/safeguarded 16 jobs, provided 58 people with guidance and advice while helping 31 people access training programmes.
