The SOFA Project (ERDF)
Originally set up in 1980, SOFA is being relaunched in 2001 with the same guiding vision of: 'alleviating poverty through the provision of affordable furniture and domestic appliances to people on low incomes'.

On average, SOFA delivers to 5000 homes and makes 12000 'pick-up' van visits per year. A phenomenal effort in helping local communities in the URBAN area. What was needed were new premises, improved facilities, additional training and financial support. SOFA 2000 was then born.

SOFA, in essence, is a 'furniture recycling charity' and as such is in business of major furniture recycling, restoration, training and work experience provision. The existing building was demolished and replaced with brand new facilities including on-site accommodation.

The social and economic benefits are enormous in delivering training, help, experience and providing valuable products and services to the local URBAN community.

SOFA's next 20 years of existence promises to be as exciting and worthy as their first, further reducing the impact and burden of poverty in the region.
